A species of milkweed is known for its intensely purple, starry flowers, which bloom from late spring to mid-summer. This is a rare species to find growing in Ontario, however; our plants are grown from seed collected responsibly from original wild populations. A bit slower to establish than Common Milkweed (although it grows in a similar habitat), this species if durable and well behaved, as well as low maintenance once established. Due to the bright colour of the flowers, this milkweed has great ornamental value and is perfect for sunny border or butterfly gardens. They are a great nectar source for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinating insects.
