Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is an evergreen tree with branches that hang down, giving it a pyramidal shape. Relatively slow-growing, but lovely in structure. It is fairly easy to maintain, but be sure to provide wind protection and mulching around its base. Eastern Hemlock does not tolerate very windy, dry, or polluted sites. It prefers partial shade or shade but can thrive in sun if provided with adequate moisture and shelter from the wind. Provides excellent winter shelter for surrounding wildlife.
