Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) has an ornamental value throughout the year. Round-shaped foliage has a blue tinge in the summer only to turn to an attractive golden brown/red in the fall. It is an extremely drought tolerant grass, which can also handle poor soil.  A great choice for full sun in your garden. It hosts many butterflies larvae such as Indian and Leonard skipper, serves as a hiding place for small wildlife and provides habitat and food for song, ground and game birds. Do not plant near other aggressive plants as it won’t handle their competition.
