Description

Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is considered to have once been native to the southern most part of Ontario. Though no natural areas have currently been found it is still a popular choice for landscaping gardens as far north as Toronto. Its unique heart shaped leaves and vibrant pink spring blossoms make it a very attractive tree. Prefers medium to moist soil and lightly shaded locations; does not tolerate standing water. Flowers and seeds are edible.
