Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata) is a very versatile tree that grows in a wide variety of locations and soils. It prefers moist soil in a sunny or partially sunny location. Its tap root goes deep into the ground so be sure to pick your location accordingly-  it will need lots of space to grow. Seeds are edible are can be eaten raw or cooked; often used in breads and pies.
