A beautiful, mid-sized tree that will create lovely white blooms in the spring. It produces small and edible fruits that are sour when raw but make great preserves. The non-fruit parts of the tree are toxic and inedible. This tree lives only 40 years but will grow quickly and can spread through suckers. It produces a lot of fruit once mature, providing a food source for birds and other animals in the late summer, which is why this tree is also known as the Bird Cherry. This species prefers dry to medium sandy soil.
